Madrid Barajas Airport, Spain: 230,000 Square Meters

Madrid Airport boasts one of the world’s largest bamboo interiors, with 230,000 m² (2.3 million sq.ft) of bamboo ceiling strips. These specially made strips meet the M1 fire retardant standard for public spaces. Completed in 2005 and extended in 2007, the airport features a distinctive bamboo linear roof structure. This is enhanced by a series of roof lights and gently curved laminated bamboo laths, allowing for versatile space arrangement across different floors.
